Overview

Paper Prince + Nessy is a concept for a children's show that uses both Maya and Photoshop to combine 3D models with 2D puppet animation. The premise follows the Paper Prince as he navigates a 3D yarn world with his new friend Nessy. The show is built around themes such as adaptation, teamwork and coping with conditions like Autism. The Paper Prince is drawn and exported separately from Photoshop, animated in Maya. Nessy is sculpted in Zbrush and modelled and animated in Maya.

The show is aimed at an audience of 4-6 year olds.

About the Characters

The main characters consist of the "Paper Prince" and "Nessy". 'The Prince' or 'Paper Prince' is a 2D character from the 'Doodle World' (2D) that gets stuck in the 'Woolly world' (3D).

The Prince wishes to find his way back home and gains the help of local resident, Nessy. The Prince acts as the voice of reason in the duo and has elements of autistic traits for representation/educational value. His journey in the Woolly world will portray the struggles children might have fitting in and understanding themselves and/or others. The Paper Prince is quieter and more introverted but not the stereotype of the typical shy person.

Nessy is energetic and friendly. Nessy enjoys physical activities over things like learning or doing things prim and proper . He's slightly boisterous. He act as as a FOIL to the Prince and the show will focus on how their differences both help and hinder the two during different situations.
- Focusing on a message that even if you're bad at one thing, there are plenty other ways to contribute to others and have fun.-

Research:

Kanner's Syndrome

Children with Kanner's syndrome tend to have a strong need for routine and can sometimes show little interest in interacting with others. They might have trouble communicating or understanding others and have hypersensitivity to stimuli like smell, light, noise, taste or touch.
According to the Medico Experts page on types of Autism, Children with Autism may appear attentive and smart but suffer from underlining traits such as:
*An obsession with object handling
*Difficulty in speech
*Lack of emotional attachment
*Loss of memory and visual skills.

The difficulties in understanding others apply best as a basis for the Prince as, the show is around learning to understand the world better.  Through the Paper Prince, children would able to understand the struggles of their neurodivergent peers, making a positive impact on its audience.

Incorporation into the Prince's Character:

Coming from a royal background, the Paper Prince will be used to things being done in a very formal and organised way. His interactions with Nessy will teach him how to compromise and tolerate when methods don't produce his desired result.
Since a theme for the Paper Prince is his love for flowers, they act as the Prince's sense of familiarity/bring him comfort. He has a habit of carrying around a flower themed item and, a routine of taking care of potted plants.
